Monastic Initiative
Since Buddhism was first introduced in the 8th century, monasteries have traditionally carried the culture and scholarship of Tibet through the generations. The political turmoil of the 1950s and 60s decimated Tibet's educational and religious foundation. In order to rebuild the cultural heritage and educational infrastructure of the community, it was necessary to first assess and remediate the damage to the monastic system.
